Why encoding mode matters: QR codes pack data differently depending on what you type. Numeric mode (digits only) is most efficient. Alphanumeric mode (digits, capitals, and symbols like space, $, %, *, +, -, ., /, :) is next. Anything else — lowercase letters, most punctuation, emoji, or non-Latin scripts — forces byte mode, which takes roughly double the space per character. A serial number in all-caps digits and letters packs tighter than the same info in a mixed-case sentence.
