Scanning a code safely

A QR code is just data — a link, a bit of text, Wi-Fi details. Decoding one can't run anything on its own. The actual risk shows up after you decode it, the same as clicking any link: if the result is a website address, glance at the domain before opening it, the same way you'd check a link in a text message from an unknown sender.
